What is
TryMyUI enables website developers to learn about their users' experience with their website through usability testing. TryMyUI pays users a nominal fee to interact with their clients' websites and give feedback about their thoughts and impressions.

According to the company's website, to be a great Usability Tester you must:
  1. Clearly say exactly what you are thinking as you are thinking it. They are interested in your impressions, expectations, and the motivations for your actions. Don't edit your thoughts as you navigate the website simply say exactly what you are thinking at each step.
  2. Follow instructions closely and stay on task. You will be given a set of tasks to perform on a website and you must follow them carefully.
  3. Write a clear written summary answering some questions about your experience.
A usability test consists of:
  1. A video of your computer screen (screencast) as you use a target website. The video features your voice as you describe in detail your impressions and thoughts as you use the website and perform the requested tasks.
  2. Your written summary, responding to several questions about your experience using the website.

*You do NOT need a webcam to do this work - you are not being videotaped.

I will say that when I did the qualifications test, it was hard for me to follow only the instructions on the screen without getting ahead of myself, so when you do the qualification make sure to only perform the specific action in front of you.

How Do I Make Money?
After registering for TryMyUI, you must pass the qualification test which consists of a sample test that shows you understand and can fulfill the requirements for being a great usability tester. In the test you will create a sample usability video, and provide a sample Written Usability Summary answering some questions about your experience.

Your results will be graded and you will be provided with feedback on how well you did. If your qualification test is approved you will be able to perform real usability tests for pay. During the signup process you will need to provide general demographic information about yourself such as your age, country of residence, etc. since website creators are generally interested in the opinions of users who fit their target demographics. After you have qualified, you receive a notification email each time a test is available for your demographic. These go out to all workers who fit the demographic, and the available tests are filled on a first-come-first-take basis. TryMyUI says to realistically expect to be offered a few tests per week, so this is definitely not a full-time job.

Earning Potential
Your fee for completing each test is $10 and each test runs about 15 to 20 minutes. If you look at the big picture, that's about $30 per hour! Once your test is accepted, you will be paid via Paypal within one week, but usually sooner.
